Photo taking tips

    • Your photos don’t have to be taken by a professional photographer to make your cards or announcements look great. Sometimes, your baby or family is most comfortable with you or another family member behind the lens, leading to the best pictures.
  • Set up a mini-studio in your home! Prepare the area by making sure there aren’t any distractions in the background. Choose a naturally lit location and avoid using your flash, if possible. A solid blanket or sheet always makes a great backdrop.
  • Head outdoors! Let little ones run around and capture them just being themselves. The natural light outside always makes for beautiful pictures.
  • Use the highest resolution setting on your camera (at least 800 x 1200 pixels with a resolution of 300) and make sure your pictures are in focus.
  • Take LOTS of pictures and try many different angles. Close ups always capture personality as well as pictures of tiny fingers and toes for birth announcements.
  • Please don’t crop or edit your photos before sending them in, let us do that! We can convert your photos to sepia or black and white along with doing color touch up.
  • No cell phone or scanned pictures, please. The resolution is too low.
  • Send as many pictures as you’d like, the more the merrier. Simply indicate your favorites in the submission email. If you think a picture might not work, submit it anyway and we’ll let you know.
  • If you are using professional photographs, we must have a signed release from the photographer. We are happy to send you a form if you need one. When you indicate that you have permission to use pictures, you are assuming all responsibilities of copyright infringement.
  • When emailing photos, don’t let your computer or email program “compress” them. If you need to send multiple emails with your high resolution photos, please do so.
